White House:- Accusing House Republicans of walking away from deficit negotiations “after insisting that the budget be balanced on the backs of seniors and the middle class,” White House press secretary Jay Carney issued a statement embracing the deficit reduction approach of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., which he calls “a responsible compromise that cuts spending in a way that protects critical investments and does not harm the economic recovery.”

Reid’s bill would cut more than $2 trillion in spending, including money saved through the drawing down of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – a technique Republicans assail as gimmickry though the House GOP budget offered by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., included the same savings.

Earlier today President Obama spoke to the National Council of La Raza saying “we can’t just close our deficits by cutting spending. … Not only is it not fair if all of this is done on the backs of middle-class families and poor families, it doesn’t make sense. It may sound good to save a lot of money over the next five years, but not if we sacrifice our future for the next fifty.”

The Reid plan contains no tax increases. Carney today said it would “make a meaningful down payment in addressing our fiscal challenge, and we could continue to work together to build on it with a balanced approach to deficit reduction that includes additional spending reforms and closing tax loopholes for corporations, millionaires and billionaires.

Chris Colfer:- In June, Ryan Murphy told Ryan Seacrest that the "Glee" stars entering their senior year at McKinley High would graduate from the show at the end season, instantly stirring massive buzz given that three of the show's biggest names -- Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith -- would be upperclassmen this coming year. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy made clear that there would be no prep years or college plot lines.
Those stars -- Michele, Colfer and Monteith -- are "not going to be back at all for Season 4," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year."
Those comments closely matched what he told Seacrest, when he said, "The thing that I wanted to do and the cast wanted to do, we didn't want to have a show where they were in high school for 8 years. We really wanted it to be true to that experience. We thought it would be really cool if we were true to the timeline."
Murphy has aimed to add new stars to the show each year, with the second season bringing aboard breakout stars Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet, among others. Fans erupted in anger when they found out that, while Criss was made a series regular for the third season, Overstreet would apparently not be included in the show very much going forward. Soon after, a seeming reversal of the decision was announced, with Overstreet publicly extended the opportunity to continue on as a guest, with a series regular position possibly being attained as early as midseason.
Murphy is also adding cast members through the summer reality show, "The Glee Project."

Listen, I know how old I am and that I’m just a shoulder injury from losing roles like the one in ‘Taken,’. So I stay with the training, I stay with the work. It’s easy enough to plan jobs, to plan a lot of work. That’s effective. But that’s the weird thing about grief. You can’t prepare for it. You think you’re gonna cry and get it over with. Black History Month 2011: The Associated Press published a piece in February 2009 suggesting that perhaps it was time for Black History Month to “fade into history,” given the fact that “Obama’s election means… African-American history IS American history and should be remembered and recognized every day of the year.” I couldn’t agree more. African-American history and culture defines American culture. And the need for Black History Month may be obscured further since more and more young Americans identify as multiethnic, as noted by The New York Times this weekend. ”Optimists say the blending of the races is a step toward transcending race, to a place where America is free of bigotry, prejudice and programs like affirmative action,” the Times reports, adding, “Pessimists say that a more powerful multiracial movement will lead to more stratification and come at the expense of the number and influence of other minority groups, particularly African-Americans.”
I certainly identify with the optimistic views detailed above, but I understand also the need to feel pride in one’s heritage, which is why I think Black History Month still has a place in the zeitgeist. I’ve been wondering all morning, is there a way to talk to kids about Black History Month that doesn’t highlight a separatist mindset? How can we talk about Black History within the scope of American history, focusing on the creation of America as we know it today?
Then I discovered that The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, founded in 1915 by “the Father of Black History” Dr. Carter G. Woodson, has chosen a theme for Black History Month 2011: African-Americans and the Civil War. Reading about Black Soldiers in the Civil War on the National Archives website, it’s interesting to see how a need for more Union soldiers seemed to be a motivating factor for the eradication of slavery in this country. The Emancipation Proclamation took effect January 1, 1963, freeing slaves from the Confederacy and allowing them to join the Union army. But it also left “one million slaves in Union territory still in bondage,” according to PBS. They were not freed until the implementation of the 13th amendment in 1965.
According to historians at the National Archives, “Frederick Douglass encouraged black men to become soldiers to ensure eventual full citizenship.” Douglass argued, “Once let the black man get upon his person the brass letter, U.S., let him get an eagle on his button, and a musket on his shoulder and bullets in his pocket, there is no power on earth that can deny that he has earned the right to citizenship.”
After the war, Douglass went on to support women’s suffrage and to speak about racism in Unions. It seems Douglass would appreciate the growing multiethinic identities and racially transcendent culture in the U.S. In 1884, he married a white feminist, Helen Pitts, and is famous for saying, “I would unite with anybody to do right and with nobody to do wrong.”

Barbara Bush: Barbara Bush, daughter of former president George W. Bush, has endorsed gay marriage in New York state.
She refused to be interviewed for an article in The New York Times, but the Times chronicles the long history of presidential relatives coming out publicly with positions that run contrary to those of their presidential relative.
Typically, at least on issues of equality, it is the children and spouses of Republican presidents and presidential candidates who come out with more liberal views.

Barbara Bush, one of the twin daughters of George W. Bush, will endorse same-sex marriage on Tuesday, publicly breaking ranks with a father who, as president, pushed for a constitutional amendment banning such unions.
Ms. Bush, 29, has taped a video calling on New York to legalize gay marriage. A bill to do that was defeated in the state in 2009. She describes the issue as a matter of conscience and equality.
“I am Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality,” she says in the brief message, sponsored by an advocacy group. “New York is about fairness and equality. And everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love.”
The video ends with Ms. Bush, who lives in Manhattan, imploring the state’s residents to “join us.”
Ms. Bush is the latest child of a prominent Republican leader to embrace same-sex marriage, long considered anathema to the conservative movement. Gay rights advocates have been quick to seize on the generational split as evidence that the acceptance of same-sex marriage is blind to party affiliation and family values.
Meghan McCain, the daughter of John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, has become an outspoken supporter of same-sex marriage, despite her father’s opposition to it. And Mary Cheney, the lesbian daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, has forcefully backed it as well — and is widely credited with helping to persuade her father to do the same.
In the case of Mr. McCain, Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush, it is not just their children who have supported it. So, to varying degrees, have their wives. Laura Bush, in a television interview in May, said, “When couples are committed to each other and love each other” they should have “the same sort of rights that everyone has.”
Ms. McCain, a blogger and author, has said it is unhealthy for members of political families to paper over disagreements on issues of social justice merely to project an image of harmony. “Wives and children should be able to speak their piece,” she said in a television interview last year. “I think it shows healthy dynamics within a family. We shouldn’t all think one way, and think one thing.”

Groundhog Day 2011: We all want winter to be over! But, if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd, we’re in for two more weeks of winter. By the way, Groundhog Day is always on February 2nd. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, PA. Though I grew up in PA and always knew about Groundhog Day, the holiday seemed to gain more recognition after the 1993 movie came out.

Sal Picinich: The “Cake Boss” family and Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey lost a member this week. Sal Picinich lost his battle with cancer at the age of 63.
Sal of Carlo’s Bakery had been sick for a while, and after 45 years of working at the bakery, he stopped appearing on the show and working as much as he dealt with his illness. But he did return to Carlo’s Bakery to receive a great honor, the Employee of the Century Award on the bakery’s 100^th anniversary.
Buddy “The Cake Boss” Valastro looked to Sal as a “second father,” and Sal had worked for Buddy’s dad Buddy Sr. before he passed away.
Although his celebrity status was short lived, his wife said he enjoyed it.
Sal leaves behind his beloved wife Lucille and his children, Danielle Picinich Reinoso and Salvatore Picinich as well as two grandchildren.

Woods Hospital:- A woman was transported to a hospital from Tiger Woods' Florida home after firefighters responded to a medical call early Tuesday, NBC News reported.

According to Orlando-based WESH, the adult female was taken from the $2.6 million mansion "on advanced life support" after firefighters received a call at 2:36 a.m.

A radio log showed an adult female was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Fla., WESH reported.

Video footage obtained by WESH showed a woman on a stretcher being removed from an ambulance by emergency officials.

A black Cadillac Escalade was seen at the hospital shortly after the ambulance arrived, WESH reported. It said the license plate on the Escalade was similar to the one involved in Woods' car crash on Nov. 27.

A spokeswoman for Orange County Fire Rescue would not confirm local news reports that the 2:36 a.m. call came from Woods’ home early Tuesday or that the patient was a woman. Spokeswoman Genevieve Latham told The Associated Press that an adult patient was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, the same place Woods was treated after he crashed his sport utility vehicle outside his home last month. The patient’s condition wasn’t immediately known.

Media attention has been focused on the world’s No. 1 golfer since he hit a hydrant and a tree around 2:25 a.m. on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The Florida Highway Patrol last week cited Woods for careless driving and fined him $164.

The accident — and Woods’ refusal to answer questions about it — fueled speculation about a possible dispute between him and his wife, Elin.

Just days before the crash, a National Enquirer story alleged Woods had been seeing a New York nightclub hostess, Rachel Uchitel, who has denied it. After the crash, Us Weekly reported that a Los Angeles cocktail waitress named Jaimee Grubbs claims she had a 31-month affair with Woods.

Last week, Woods issued a statement saying he had let his family down with unspecified “transgressions” that he regrets with “all of my heart.” He did not elaborate.

A police report on the crash released Monday showed that a Florida trooper who suspected Woods was driving under the influence sought a subpoena for the golfer’s blood results from the hospital he was taken to after the crash, but prosecutors rejected the petition for insufficient information.

A witness, who wasn’t identified in the report, told trooper Joshua Evans that Woods had been drinking alcohol earlier. The same witness also said Woods had been prescribed two drugs, Ambien and Vicodin.
The report did not say who the witness was but added it was the same person who pulled Woods from the vehicle after the accident. Woods’ wife, Elin, has told police that she used a golf club to smash the back windows of the Cadillac Escalade to help her husband out. His injuries were minor.

Following a bizarre final moment that almost saw the Longhorns hold on to a timeout, but leave without the Big 12 Championship, senior kicker Hunter Lawrence drilled a 46-yard field goal as time expired - for the second time - to lead Texas to a 13-12 win over Nebraska.

Time had seemed to expire on the game, Colt McCoy's Heisman Trophy bid and the hopes of a second national title this decade due to bad clock management. McCoy, who struggled all game with Nebraska's pass rush, did not call time out in the final 30 seconds after moving to the Nebraska 29. He came to the line with 10 seconds left, took the snap with seven, rolled out and when he finally threw the ball out of bounds, the clock was all zeroes. The score read: Nebraska 12, Texas 10.

As Nebraska players cartwheeled on the field, however, the officiating crew received word that the replay booth wanted to take another look at when the ball went out of bounds. After a very short review, replay official Jack McDonald signaled to referee Tom Walker that one second remained. Call it the $17.5 million review because had the booth determined no time was left, the Big 12 would have no rep in the BCS title game. Instead, the Longhorns will play Alabama on Jan. 7 in Pasadena, Calif.

Nebraska called timeout to ice Lawrence, who made field goals of 47 and 49 yards last year, but nothing more than 46 yards this season. After the timeout, Lawrence slipped the ball inside the left upright to keep the Longhorns undefeated and Pasadena-bound.

Before that titanic battle, however, there is the question of McCoy and the Heisman. After Florida's Tim Tebow slipped up in the SEC Championship game, McCoy entered the night as perhaps the favorite. But he was intercepted three times, the last of which, deep in Nebraska territory, led to the Cornhuskers eventually kicking the go-ahead field goal. Bottom line, the UFC is really bending over backwards to put Kimbo Slice into a situation where he can both look good and win. Why? The 4 million plus viewers who tuned in to watch Kimbo’s losing effort against TUF 10 finalist Roy Nelson are numbers the promotional organization cannot ignore. The man means big money, and that is what prizefighting is all about. When Kimbo fights, everyone makes a lot of dough from his opponents to the promoters and television stations that are associated with his matches. He is simply a cash cow that cannot be discarded.

Given Kimbo is still considered an MMA newbie with only four official bouts under his belt, matchmaking will be the key to any success he may enjoy in the future. The problem is this brawler needs some relatively easy opponents to develop his confidence and skills, but the UFC is an organization that is supposed to promote only those fighters considered to be at the highest level. So how will they do it?

The best the UFC can do is to match Kimbo Slice against naturally smaller men and/or fighters who appear to be a bit on the downside of their careers, and Houston Alexander seems to fit the mode, being a natural light heavyweight and having lost his last three bouts promoted by the UFC. By no means should Alexander be considered a stepping stone, especially given Kimbo Slice has already been knocked out by a much smaller light heavyweight (Seth Petruzelli), but this type of matchmaking at least puts the man in a position to compete and possibly win.

The Tide beat the Gators 32-13, taking revenge for 2008's defeat at the hands of Florida.
John 16 33, in the New International Version of the Bible, says "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16 33, in the King James version of the Bible says "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
However, John 16 33 was of no help to Tim Tebow in the Florida Alabama SEC title game. Both teams came in undefeated, but it is Alabama who will reach the BCS title game in an attempt to win the National Championship. If Texas wins their game tonight, against No. 21 Nebraska, they will be the Crimson Tide's opponent.
As indicated in our preview of the game, Tim Tebow needed to connect with his TE Aaron Hernandez. A play in the early part of the 4th quarter showed his problems with that. Knocking on the goal line, Florida and Tebow failed to score when Tebow missed a wide-open Hernandez by failing to put "enough air" on the ball. He threw a strike, and it was easily intercepted, whereas a floated pass over the defense would have been an easy TD.
That may, in fact, may have made no difference. At the time, Alabama was already ahead 32-13. Tebow, who came back for his senior year in hopes of winning another title, was 20 of 35 for 247 yards but that pass to Hernandez aw his last gasp.
Meanwhile, for Alabama, RB Mark Ingram, making a strong bid to claim Alabama’s first Heisman Trophy, rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns. He did so despite suffering an injury in last week's Auburn game. QB Greg McElroy was 12 of 18 for 239 yards and a touchdown.
Whither Tim Tebow now? Many pro football analysts feel he does not have the abilities to be a pro football QB, as his offense at Florida was a gimmicky one. Some predict he will be a better H-back.
Meanwhile, while Tim Tebow always puts a Biblical passage, such as John 16 33, some question his motives. As a Biblical passage, it has been called by some sacrilegious, as they are not meant to be battle cries. On the other hand, if he meant to spread the word of the Lord by having the passage read and spread on the Web, that is a totally different story, say many.
At any rate, Tim Tebow will not be on the big stage at the BCS Title game, nor will any other Biblical passages such as John 16 33. Alabama will face a team, to be determined, but probably Texas, for the national title on Jan. 7th.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather March 13:- Yahoo sports writer Kevin Iole is reporting that the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao bout is all but set for March 13th. Iole says that he got the news from one of his sources, so let’s hope that it’s legitimate. The previous rumors that were floating around was that Pacquiao was considering a bout against Yuri Foreman while Mayweather was possibly looking at fighting Matthew Hatton. Not too many boxing fans were interested in seeing Pacquiao and Mayweather fight against those opponents based on the negative comments.

As of now, no site has been set for the location of the bout, but Las Vegas is one of the cities that is being considered.

Pauls ended first in a 26.2 mile marathon run along the Pacific Coast and was the only one to run the entire way, though he said he had never run more than 13 miles before. He also beat his personal goal of fitting it in less than 5 ½ hours. He was motivated by his old partner

Pauls seemed to be having a more difficult time in his time home, trying to fit in training along with 12-hour workdays. But he remained focused on his goal of getting into the finals.

Some HancAquam readers are asking if the Climate Gate scandal undermines the authority of science in general. . .the implication being that science--often the arch-nemesis of religion in the public square, particularly Christianity--has been somehow fundamentally damaged and can now be safely ignored or ridiculed into silence. Visions of booing the likes of Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens off the world-stage dance in our heads. . .

Generally, the question goes something like this: "Doesn't this scandal prove that science is just another game played by elitists who want fortune and fame?"

My unequivocal answer: "Absolutely. Not."

The Climate Gate scandal reaffirms the truth of what every Christian ought to know from personal experience: we live in a fallen world run by fallen men and women who do and says things that all too often prove to be sinful. Scientists may be under a cloud of suspicion at the moment, but science as a means of investigating the natural world is as trustworthy has it ever been. In the same way that the abuse scandals put the clergy under suspicion without touching the essential core of the faith, scientists themselves will have to endure heightened scrutiny while defending the basic integrity of their profession. And defend it they must; first, by unambiguously condemning the CRU and those who deceived the public. And second, by starting over with a new investigation into the basic assumptions of global warming.

Scientists, like theologians, freely admit that their knowledge is ultimately tacit, firmly held but subject to refinement upon further study. Our knowledge of the world (or God) in no way alters the reality of that world (or God). As John Polkinghorne argues, our sciences (whether it is natural or divine) are always a matter of verisimilitude, "truth-likeness." For scientists, the truth-likeness of science empowers the discovery of new facts and the invention of new technology. The bumper-sticker on the Good Scientist's car might be: "Science. It Works."

What must be combated during this scandal is the rise of scientific equivalent of the Voice of the Faithful (VOTF). This group was founded in 2002 as a lay-led reaction to the scandals. Taking advantage of the chaos after the scandal broke, VOTF argued that the abuse of minors by priests and the subsequent cover-ups by bishops exposed the weaknesses of the Church's hierarchical structure and the need for radical reform. VOTF pushed for changes in this structure that fit their dissident, Protestantizing agenda for the Church: women's ordination, married clergy, more hierarchical power to the laity, etc. Their push for these specific reforms ignores the fact that women, married people, and lay folks in other churches and even in non-religious professions sexually abuse children as well.

Unfortunately, for the VOTF, they can not demonstrate how the hierarchical structure itself was responsible for the sexual abuse of minors. No Church document approves child molestation. Nothing in the tradition of the Church encourages it. Canon law does not sanction it. No Catholic conscience properly formed can tolerate it. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Everything the Church holds to be true and faithfully teaches explicitly condemns the sexual abuse of minors. The abuse happened precisely because the men who populate the hierarchy failed to be diligent in their sacred responsibilities. Had they followed Church teaching faithfully, the abuse would have never happened. The teachers are at fault, not the teachings.

This goes for the Climate Gate scientists as well. The Climate Research Unit scandal happened because the scientists involved did not faithfully carry out the basic procedures of the scientific method. By destroying inconvenient data, lying to colleagues and gov't oversight bodies, by suppressing oppositional voices in the journals, and manipulating methods to reach pre-determined outcomes, these guys behaved more like religious zealots defending a ridiculous occult dogma than as scientists searching for the truth.

Just as the sex scandals exposed a perversion of the Church's teachings and structures by fallen men, Climate Gate exposes a perversion of the scientific method by those bent on having their way in spite of the truth.

Second one is Rachel Uchitel. Rachel Uchitel plans parties and has forcefully denied all the allegations, however there are massive loopholes in her story. She also offered a lopsided story for being in the same hotel in Australia where Tiger was staying.

Carlos Dunlap:- Top-ranked Florida could be without one of its best pass rushers against No. 2 Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game.Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested early Tuesday and charged with driving under the influence, just days before the biggest game of Florida's season.

"We are aware of the incident and are currently gathering more information," coach Urban Meyer said in a statement released by the school.Meyer was expected to address the situation in more detail after practice Tuesday.
Dunlap, a junior from North Charleston, S.C., was released Tuesday morning on his own recognizance after his initial appearance at the Alachua County Jail. He was arrested at 3:25 a.m.

According to Gainesville Police spokesman Keith Kameg, an officer was dispatched to check out reports of a reckless driver near campus. When the officer spotted the car stopped at an intersection, he noticed the red 2000 Chrysler was not moving through several green lights.

The officer found Dunlap slumped over and asleep at the wheel. The officer woke up Dunlap through a cracked window, but he "would only open his eyes momentarily and then fall back asleep," Kameg said.

The officer unlocked the door, put the car in park and turned off the ignition. Dunlap got out and "was very groggy and had difficulty speaking and listening to instructions," Kameg said.

According to police, Dunlap had watery and bloodshot eyes, and there was a smell of alcohol. Dunlap failed a field sobriety test, refused a breath test and was booked.

Dunlap, the defensive MVP of last season's Bowl Championship Series national title game, has started every game this season for the defending champs. He has 35 tackles and is tied for the team lead with seven sacks heading into Saturday's SEC title game.

Tiger Woods Accident Rumors:- Tiger Woods has released a statement regarding his car accident over the weekend. The golfing champ takes “responsibility” for the crash and decries rumors that his wife, former Swedish model Elin Nordegren, played a role in the accident.
“As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week…This situation is my fault, and it’s obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I’m human and I’m not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Tiger wrote in a statement on his website Sunday, blasting reports that he fought with Elin over an alleged affair with party hostess Rachel Uchitel. “Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible. The only person responsible for the accident is me.”
Woods, the world’s most accomplished golfer, was hurt in a car accident in Florida on Friday and later released from the hospital in good condition after treatment. A local police chief said the athlete’s wife used a golf club to smash a window of his SUV to get him out. Woods, 33, who made a triumphant return to professional golf this year after missing much of last season following reconstructive knee surgery, suffered “serious” injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said. But the golfer’s office called the accident “minor.”
The PGA winner champions his wife a hero by acting “courageously” in helping him after the crash.

I’m not sure what the effects of this will be on Grady’s career, although I’m certain he will receive a lot of ridicule from team-mates and sports announcers for the next few months and well into the 2010 major league season. But, in the end (Did I just say “but, in the end” in this post?) the dude does has a nice physique (according to a couple female friends of mine) so I’m guessing his female fanbase will certainly grow. Conversely, I spent most of the 2009 baseball season wishing I had nabbed Sizemore in my fantasy draft when I had the chance two years ago, but now I’m happy to have Matt Holiday instead. I don’t want to have any reason to associate Grady Sizemore with “fantasy.”

Steelers vs Ravens Score:- The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens renew their rivalry this weekend and while we’ve seen some very physical, intense contests between the two teams in recent years, this week’s contest has the potential to be one-sided.

The Steelers are battered and have a couple of injuries that may cost them an opportunity to win this game. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is questionable for this contest and even though he might be healthy enough to play, it’s unclear whether he will after suffering a concussion last week.
The bigger concern may be the lack of safety Troy Polamalu in the lineup as the Steelers have had a tendency to blow leads without their Pro Bowl safety. Both teams need the win to stick around in the AFC playoff race but the Ravens have the edge as they are healthier.

Steelers offense versus Ravens defense
Sure, the Ravens defense has been soft this year and will probably be even more open to giving up yards with linebacker Terrell Suggs out of the lineup but the Steelers could be very shorthanded if Roethlisberger sits out.
Roethlisberger has passed all the necessary medical tests and will probably play, but there is speculation that he may sit out considering how serious the league has been treating concussions recently.
Compounding their problems is the fact that backup quarterback, Charlie Batch, is also out as he suffered a wrist injury in his short time in the game against Kansas City.

Pittsburgh will have to lean heavily on their running game but if Roethlisberger isn’t 100% or if he can’t play, the Ravens will have an easy time against a one-dimensional offense.
Ravens offense versus Steelers defense
If the Kansas City Chiefs can score 27 points against the Steelers defense, what are the Ravens capable of?
The Ravens offense has been sedated in recent weeks, averaging just 12.6 points per game in their last three contest, which means the Ravens will have to come up with a much better effort this week.
Look for the Ravens to show a better commitment to the running game with Ray Rice and Willis McGahee and then fire away with Joe Flacco to present the balance. If the Steelers offense is limited, it should mean more opportunities for the Ravens offense.
Outlook & Pick

The Steelers are coming off a tough loss and while Roethlisberger might play, he will likely be limited. Reports of him sitting out are likely just mind games but the fact that he isn’t 100% likely remains.
The Ravens aren’t the Super Bowl contender they were last year but they are still more than capable of taking advantage of a beaten up team at home. Look for the Ravens to get a big win and vault themselves back in the playoffs race in the AFC.

Tina Griswold Video:- The Lakewood police officers killed today have been identified. Sgt. Mark Renninger was first identified on Facebook and WFMZ's web site. He grew up in Lehigh Valley, Pa., and was born in Bethlehem. He served in the military. According to WFMZ, he is one of six siblings. He was a member of the Lakewood SWAT team.

Renninger and three other officers lost their lives this morning. No other persons in the Forza Coffee shop were hurt. A Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman says one man fled on foot and he may have had an accomplice. One of Mr. Renninger's brothers, Matthew Renninger, is a former Easton police officer who accidentally shot and killed fellow Officer Jesse Sollman back in 2005. Mark Renninger is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar publicly identified the four slain police officers and issued the following statement:

“All four of our slain officers had been with this department since it started five years ago. Sergeant Mark Renninger and Officers Tina Griswold, Greg Richards and Ronald Owens were police veterans when they started and all have been outstanding professionals. This is a very difficult time for our families and our officers. The families will have many challenges ahead of them and we ask that their privacy be respected. Please keep our families and Lakewood Police in your prayers.”

Officer Tina Griswold was 40. She had 14 years of law enforcement experience. She is survived by her husband and two children. She's a former Lacey police officer. She was awarded a lifesaving medal in July.

Officer Greg Richards was 42. He had eight years of law enforcement experience and is survived by his wife and three children. He's a former Kent police officer.

Officer Ronald Owens was 37. He had 12 years of law enforcement experience and is survived by a former wife and a daughter. He used to work for the Washington State Patrol.

The Lakewood Police department said all four fallen officers joined the Lakewood Police Department as it was forming. "They are good people. They will be missed," Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Pamela Bach Arrested:- LOS ANGELES — David Hasselhoff's ex-wife has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Los Angeles.
The California Highway Patrol said Sunday that Pamela Bach was pulled over Saturday night just south of U.S. 101 on Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
The CHP alleges Bach showed blood alcohol levels of .14 and .13 on a breathalyzer test. California's legal limit is .08.
Bach was booked at the LAPD's Van Nuys jail and released. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 24.
Bach was charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run in 2007, but the charges were dropped when she agreed to pay minor damages to the woman whose car she hit.
She was married to Hasselhoff for 16 years until he filed for divorce in 2006. She appeared as a cafe owner in several episodes of Hasselhoff's series "Baywatch

Bach was taken to Van Nuys where she was booked and then released. Bach told TMZ, “I am remorseful and mortified. I am going through a really difficult time between David being in the hospital and dealing with the divorce.”
Pamela Bach said she had been trying to comfort her daughters earlier that evening over the issues with their father, David Hasselhoff, who had a seizure and is hospitalized. Bach said she went to dinner and had a few drinks.
Pamela’s bail was set at $15,000. Bach posted bond and is due in court over the DUI on Christmas Eve.

During the Afghan Northern Alliance and US invasion of Afghanistan it was one of the strongholds of the Taliban and its Arab Al Qaeda allies. As the suspected hide-out of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, it was the location of the December 2001 Battle of Tora Bora.

The Battle of Tora Bora was a military engagement that took place in Afghanistan in December 2001, during the opening stages of the war in that country launched following the 9/11 attacks on the United States. The U.S. and its allies believed that al-Qaeda leaderOsama bin Laden was hiding in the rugged mountains at Tora Bora, but despite overrunning the Taliban and al-Qaeda positions they failed to kill or capture him.

Tora Bora (Pashto: تورا بورا, “black dust”) is a cave complex situated in the White Mountains (Safed Koh) of eastern Afghanistan, near the Khyber Pass.

In 2001, it was suspected to be in use by al-Qaeda and the location of bin Laden's headquarters, variously described as a multi-storied cave complex harnessing hydroelectric power from mountain streams, or a lower-rise dwelling with hotel-like corridors capable of sheltering more than 1,000. It was also said to contain a large cache of ammunition, such as missiles left over from the 1980s.

The outposts in use in 2001 were originally built by extending and shoring up natural caves, with the assistance of the CIA in the early 1980s (Operation Cyclone) for use by mujahideen during the Soviet invasion ofAfghanistan , but several may date back to much earlier periods, as the difficult terrain has been used by tribal warriors fighting foreign invaders since ancestral times.

The Battle

At the end of the invasion of Afghanistan, al-Qaeda fighters were still holding out in the mountains of the Tora Bora region. Anti-Taliban tribal militia continued a steady advance through the difficult terrain, backed by air strikes guided in by U.S. and British Special Forces. Facing defeat and reluctant to fight fellow Muslims, al-Qaeda forces negotiated a truce with a local militia commander to give them time to surrender their weapons. In retrospect, however, many believe that the truce was a ruse to allow important al-Qaeda figures, includingOsama bin Laden , to escape[citation needed]. On December 12, the fighting flared again, possibly initiated by a rear guard buying time for the main force's escape through theWhite Mountains into the tribal areas of Pakistan. Once again, tribal forces backed by U.S. special operations troops and air support pressed ahead against fortified al-Qaeda positions in caves and bunkers scattered throughout the mountainous region. Twelve British SBS commandos, One British Royal Signals Specialist from 63 Signals squadron now known as 18SFUK, and various members of 22 S.A.S accompanied the U.S. special operations forces in the attack on the cave complex atTora Bora . In August 2008, the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that Special Forces Operators of the German KSK took part inthe battle as well. They were purportedly responsible for the protection of the flanks in the Tora Bora mountains and conducted reconnaissance missions.

By December 17, the last cave complex had been taken and their defenders overrun. No massive "underground fortresses" were found, only small bunkers and outposts and a few minor training camps.

A search of the area by U.S. forces continued into January, but no sign of bin Laden or the al-Qaeda leadership emerged. Former CIA officer Gary Berntsen, who led the CIA team (consisting primarily of CIA Paramilitary Officers from Special Activities Division) inAfghanistan that was tasked with locating Osama bin Laden, claims in his 2005 book Jawbreaker that he and his team had pinpointed the location of Osama bin Laden. Also according to Berntsen, a number of al-Qaeda detainees later confirmed that bin Laden had escaped Tora Bora into Pakistan via an easterly route through snow covered mountains to the area of Parachinar, Pakistan. He also claims that bin Laden could have been captured if United States Central Command had committed the troops that Berntsen had requested. Former CIA officer Gary Schroen concurs with this view [3]. Pentagon documents [4] seem to confirm this account. In an October 2004 opinion article in The New York Times, Gen. Tommy Franks wrote, "We don't know to this day whether Mr. bin Laden was at Tora Bora in December 2001. Some intelligence sources said he was; others indicated he was in Pakistan at the time...Tora Bora was teeming with Taliban and Qaeda operatives ... but Mr. bin Laden was never within our grasp." Franks, who retired in 2003, was the commander of U.S. forces inAfghanistan at the time. The last time Osama bin Laden was overheard on the VHF radio was on December 14, 2001. In 2008 Andy McNab, the pseudonym of a former SAS trooper echoed the claims of Berntsen, claiming that the Coalition were, "within a whisker" of capturing bin Laden atTora Bora.

Many enemy fighters made their escape in the rough terrain and slipped away into the tribal areas of Pakistan to the south and east. It is estimated that around 200 of the al-Qaeda fighters were killed duringthe battle, along with an unknown number of anti-Taliban tribal fighters. No coalition deaths were reported.

Fury's account

A former Delta Force commander, using the pen name "Dalton Fury", who was present at Tora Bora has revealed in a book that bin Laden escaped into Pakistan on or around December 16, 2001. Fury gives three reasons for why bin Laden was able to escape: (1) the US mistakenly thought that Pakistan was effectively guarding the border area, (2) NATO allies refused to allow the use of air-dropped GATOR mines, which would have helped seal bin Laden and his forces inside theTora Bora area, and (3) overreliance on native Afghan military forces as the main force deployed against bin Laden and his fighters. Fury states that the Afghan forces would usually quit the battlefield in the evenings to break their Ramadan fasts, thereby allowing the al-Qaeda forces a chance to regroup, reposition, or escape.

Fury, in an interview on 60 Minutes, stated that his Delta Force team and CIA Paramilitary Officers traveled to Tora Bora after the CIA pinpointed bin Laden's location in that area. Fury's team proposed an operation in which they would assault bin Laden's suspected position from the rear, over the 14,000 foot high mountain separatingTora Bora from Pakistan. But, Fury's proposal was denied by unidentified officials at higher headquarters for unknown reasons. Fury then proposed the dropping of GATOR mines in the passes leading away fromTora Bora , but this was also denied. Forced to approach the al-Qaeda forces from the front, at one point Fury reports that his team was within 2,000 yards of bin Laden's suspected position, but withdrew because of uncertainty over the number of al-Qaeda fighters guarding bin Laden and a lack of support from allied Afghan troops.

A short time later, the Afghan military forces declared a cease fire with al-Qaeda. When Fury's team prepared to advance again on the al-Qaeda forces anyway, Afghan soldiers drew their weapons on the US soldiers. After 12 hours of negotiations, the Afghans stood down, but this had allowed bin Laden and his bodyguards time to relocate. Fury reports that bin Laden, in his radio calls which began in the afternoon of December 13, was clearly under duress, reportedly saying to his fighters, "the time is now, arm your women and children against the infidel". Then, after a few hours of enduring massive and accurate aerial bombing, he broke radio silence again to say "Our prayers were not answered. Times are dire and bad. We did not get support from the apostate nations who call themselves our Muslim brothers. Things might have been different." Fury describes that Bin Laden's final words to his fighters on that night were "I'm sorry for getting you involved in this battle, if you can no longer resist, you may surrender with my blessing".

A short time later, what was believed to be bin Laden and his bodyguards were observed entering a cave. Fury's team called down several bombing attacks on the cave, and believed that they had killed bin Laden. Six months later, US and Canadian forces returned and checked several caves in the area, finding remains of al-Qaeda fighters, but not of bin Laden. Fury believes that bin Laden was injured in the shoulder by shrapnel during the bombing of the cave, but was then hidden, given medical care, and assisted out of the area into Pakistan by sympathetic local Afghans.

Guantanamo captives' accounts of the battle

U.S. authorities have justified the continued detention of several dozen Guantanamo captives by the suspicion they had participated in the battle, had been present during the battle, or had passed through the area of the battle before or after it concluded.

During his testimony before a procedure convened under the authority of the Office for the Administrative Review of Detained Enemy Combatants, Ayman Saeed Abdullah Batarfi, a Yemeni medical doctor described the conditions during the battle. He testified:

* "Most of all the total guns in the Tora Bora area was 16 Kalashnikovs and there are 200 people,"

* "He [Osama bin Laden] came for a day to visit the area and we talked to him and we wanted to leave this area. He said he didn't know where to go himself and the second day he escaped and was gone."

Aftermath

Following Tora Bora, U.S. and UK forces and their Afghan allies consolidated their position in the country. A Loya jirga or grand council of major Afghan factions, tribal leaders, and former exiles, an interim Afghan government was established in Kabul under Hamid Karzai. U.S. forces established their main base at Bagram Air Base just north of Kabul. Kandahar International Airport also became an important U.S. base area. Several outposts were established in eastern provinces to hunt for Taliban and Al-Qaeda fugitives. The number of US troops operating in the country would eventually grow to over 10,000. Meanwhile, the Taliban and al-Qaeda had not given up. Al-Qaeda forces began regrouping in the Shahi-Kot mountains of Paktia Province throughout January and February 2002. A Taliban fugitive in Paktia province, Mullah Saifur Rehman, also began reconstituting some of his militia forces in support of the anti-US fighters. They totaled over 1,000 by the beginning of Operation Anaconda in March 2002. The intention of the insurgents was to use the region as a base area for launching guerrilla attacks and possibly a major offensive in the style of the mujahedin who battled Soviet forces during the 1980s.

Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke), is a professional wrestler who was a celebrity in the 1980s, however, by the 1990’s his popularity had declined. He is now past his prime and wrestling on the weekends for various independent promotions in the Elizabeth, New Jersey, area. After a show, a promoter proposes a 20th anniversary rematch with his most notable opponent, the Ayatollah (Ernest Miller), who now owns a used car dealership in Arizona. Their last match sold out Madison Square Garden, and Randy agrees to the rematch.

Randy goes home and is locked out of his trailer for not paying the rent; we learn that he loads boxes at a supermarket and that his boss, Wayne (Todd Barry), does not hold him in high esteem. He continues the training rituals for his wrestling appearance, including steroid use and tanning. At his next show, Randy wrestles a brutal hardcore match with Necro Butcher (Dylan Summers). Post-match, Randy is treated for his wounds backstage, but he suffers a heart attack soon after and collapses

Randy ultimately receives a coronary artery bypass and he is warned by the doctor that his weakened heart cannot stand the stresses of steroids or wrestling. Randy cancels his upcoming matches and begins working as a deli counter operator at the supermarket. He tells Cassidy about hisheart attack and tries to woo her while out for a drink. She warms to him at first and tells him about her son, but when Randy gets too close she leaves.

At Cassidy’s suggestion, Randy visits his estranged daughter, Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood), whom he had left years before. She curses him and tells him to leave her alone. Randy returns later with a gift suggested to him by Cassidy, and apologizes for being a bad father. The two bond over a visit to an abandoned beachfront boardwalk, and they agree to meet for dinner on that coming Saturday.

Randy goes to Cassidy’s strip club to thank her; she once more rejects his overtures. Dejected, Randy attends a wrestling match as a spectator and receives the attention he was seeking from Cassidy from his fans and fellow wrestlers. After watching the match, Randy gets drunk with his friends, snorts cocaine, and has sex with a woman he meets at a bar, sleeping the entire next day and missing his dinner date with Stephanie. He goes to her house in the middle of the night, but she tells him that she never wants to see or hear from him again.

Randy goes to work at the supermarket deli counter, where a fan recognizes him. Embarrassed by his job, Randy cuts himself in the deli meat slicer, screams at his boss, and quits.

Randy calls the promoter to reschedule the previously canceled Ayatollah match and sets out for the venue, despite his doctor’s warnings. Before the match, Cassidy unexpectedly arrives and apologizes, urging him not to wrestle for the sake of his health. She tells him, “I’m here. I’m really here”, showing that he is no longer alone. Randy explains that the real world is where he gets hurt, and the only place he belongs is in the ring.

Randy enters the ring and gives an emotional speech to the crowd before the fight begins. During the physical exertion of the match, Randy begins to feel angina, but continues despite the Ayatollah’s pleas for Randy to pin him. Randy pushes through the pain and climbs to the top turnbuckle. As he does so, he notices that Cassidy is not there. Randy prepares to dive off and deliver his signature finishing move, a diving headbutt called the “Ram Jam.” Brought to tears, he salutes the cheering crowd and leaps from the ropes as the screen cuts to black.

Jake Fischer is a hot-shot candidate for AST who was ranked as a top competitive swimmer in high school with scholarships to every Ivy league college and university, but opted to enlist in the Coast Guard instead in hopes of becoming an AST. The movie title is introduced by a mythic tale: People lost at sea often claim they feel a presence lifting them to the surface, breathing life into their bodies while they are waiting for help to arrive. They call this presence "The Guardian."

Ben, who has been juggling his home life and work as a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, is confronted by his wife asking for a separation due to his frequent time at work. During the argument, he receives a page for an immediate rescue. Out at sea, he loses his rescue team in an HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter mishap, and while waiting in a survival raft, his best friend, Chief Petty Officer Carl Billings, dies due to injury, cold, and shock. Additionally, Ben had placed a victim into the helicopter's rescue basket who was abruptly pulled under with the sinking helicopter and was never seen again. Shaken, he is forced to either retire or to teach at a Coast Guard training school to recompose in which he reluctantly chooses the latter. Here, Jake arrives as a hopeful AST candidate at the academy. Ben is considered a legend with a countless number of saves.

Ben goes against protocol as an instructor and teaches as he wills, while Jake is the usual arrogant, but good-hearted student. During the training, Jake meets a local schoolteacher, Emily Thomas, and begins a "casual" relationship, as they both know his time there is limited. Once the initial, grueling weeks of training are over, and more than half of the students dropped (the school's Commandant almost boasts of an attrition rate of more than 50%), detailed instruction begins at the academy.

After sleeping at his girlfriend’s house, Jake arrives late to class and is confronted by the waiting Ben. Unexpectedly, Jake is not dropped, although he is punished for his tardiness. Ben tries to force Jake into quitting, but he later sees his persistence and dedication. Meeting Emily in a bar, Jake tells her about him beating all of his instructor's, Ben Randall's, records. However, Maggie the barkeep, an old friend of Ben's, tells Jake of an unbreakable record: On a rescue at a ship fire, Ben worked tirelessly to save all the victims. With one man left and a broken winch, Randall held the man by his fingertips for the entire flight to land, resulting in extensive injuries to his hand and shoulder; a record that could never be broken. Jake is humbled.

That night, Jake and Emily are at her house and Jake proposes they go on a date. Emily denies the date with Jake to stick to their "casual relationship" but later gives in to the date and they sleep together again. Later, during instruction, Jake's friend Charlie Hodge is unable to cope with panicked victims in the water and is afraid of failing school, so Jake takes him out for a drink before his date with Emily to cheer him up. After ending up in a Navy bar, they get involved in a fight and land in jail, leaving Jake's girlfriend stood up. Jake arrives back at base beaten and bandaged where he takes the blame entirely.

Ben confronts Jake as to why he left his prospects as a competitive swimmer to join the AST program, and tells Jake what he learned about Jake's past: on a late night out, Jake, the designated driver, got into an accidental automobile crash, resulting in the deaths of hishigh school relay team. After a moment of sorrow, Ben and Jake share common ground, now they both know how it feels like to be the only survivor. Jake asks what Ben’s real number of saves is; no answer is given. Instruction is nearing completion and Jake takes to the role of leader during exercises. At graduation only a handful of the original candidates remain. Emily comes to see her boyfriend graduate, but the two must say goodbye because Jake is leaving town. Jake and Emily find saying goodbye to each other overwhelming by sharing a hug and kiss, then they slowly walk away from each other.

Jake is assigned to CG Air Station Kodiak, Alaska for protection of the Bering Sea, Randall’s post and the same post Jake wants to be assigned to in the first place. On a mission together they are sent to rescue two kayakers. Fischer enters the cave and lights a flare. This brings back painful memories as Ben flashes back to his crew's disaster. After rescuing the first victim Jake returns to find Ben locked up unable to move. Ben's victim had hit a log and had a head laceration, which reminded him of the night he lost his crew. Jake continues to rescue both the second victim and Ben. At this point Ben realizes he cannot continue. Against his commander's wishes he retires. Jake again asks Ben what the number is. Twenty-two is the answer, the number of people Ben couldn't save, the only number he kept track of. Finding his wife’s house, Ben goes in to apologize. He gives her the divorce papers and his wedding ring while they both act remorseful. Ben reveals that he has retired and slowly makes his way out. Ben returns to station to clear his office when he hears the radio chatter of a rescuer needed. Jake is to be sent to rescue four sailors trapped on a sinking vessel.

Three seamen are rescued while the ship's captain is trapped in the hull. While Jake refuses to leave the captain, the chopper leaves to refuel. Finally freeing the captain, the door to the room is sealed shut by water and debris. Trapped in the room the hull begins to fill with seawater. Moreover, waves hit the vessel, causing the captain to hit his head against a pipe.

In addition, an oxygen tank falls on the captain's body, killing him in the process. Ben Randall is the only rescue swimmer available to save Jake. He promptly begins to gather his gear. On scene, Ben is lowered onto the vessel. Getting snagged on the mast he is forced to unhook and climb down. At this point Jake has very little breathing room. Finding the sealed door, the water is released and Jake is freed. Back on deck they both hook to the rescue cable. Halfway up, the winch jams and the cable begins to unravel. Ben, realizing it can't hold both of them, unhooks and tries to fall. Jake catches and will not let him go, holding onto him by his glove simply saying, "I won't let go." Ben understandingly says, "I know." and unstraps his glove, plummeting from a fatal height into the ocean. Desperate to go in, Jake isn't allowed, as the only cable they have is broken and are afraid to lose Jake as well; the spotlights never see Ben resurface.

Then, Jake Fischer begins to narrate. "The Coast Guard conducted one of the largest search-and-rescue missions for a single man in its history, but the body of Senior Chief Ben Randall was never found. What makes a legend? Is it what someone did when they were alive... or how they're remembered after they're gone? Some people actually believe Senior Chief made the swim to the Aleutian Islands. He's standing on a distant beach somewhere with a fishing pole in his hand. But I found my answer a couple of weeks later..." Weeks later, Jake is again sent to rescue a man. Upon retrieval, the victim keeps asking where the other man is. Jake realizes that 'someone' helped him, staying with him until help came. "He never let go", the man said. Jake attributes this to Ben's presence and continues his narration. "There's a legend—of a man who lives beneath the sea. He's a fisher of men. A last hope for all those who have been left behind. He is known asThe Guardian (Senior Chief Ben Randall). Ben Randall always said life is about making choices. In the end, by making his, he helped me make mine."

This narration Jake makes refers to being reunited with Emily for good. In saying so, he visits Emily at the elementary school she teaches at. Because her class was interrupted by Jake, Emily pauses her class, approaches him and asks, "What are you doing here?" Jake answers, "I lied to you—I can't do casual." There, Emily kisses Jake happily.

Many of the supporting actors, including ASTC instructors, helicopter pilots, and support personnel, are actual U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmers, pilots, and ground personnel. Several characters, including Kutcher's, identify themselves as Airman. An Airman is the title and rank of an enlisted person whom is undesignated and/or currently undergoing training in an aviation related field. Similar ranks within the Coast Guard are those of Seaman and Fireman.

One of the students was Mark Gangloff. He was an Olympic swimmer who received a gold medal in the Athens Olympic Games. *Clancy Brown "reprises" his role in The Guardian as another "Captain Hadley" — in the movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Shawshank Redemption, Brown played the chief of the prison's guards as Captain Byron Hadley.

Production

* The production company hired local contractors to build a massive indoor wave pool for production.

* Following the series of hurricanes in the southern United States in 2005, production moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. Some of the "base" scenes were filmed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana and also at Camp Minden in Minden, Louisiana.

* The film was revised after Hurricane Katrina, with the addition of several comments on the storm and the rescues following. The end credits are replete with "glory" shots of U.S. Coast Guard helicopters conducting rescues in the greater New Orleans area. The DVD contains a special feature on U.S. Coast Guard rescue operations, especially in the aftermath of Katrina.

* Some of the scenes that were supposed to be filmed in Kodiak, Alaska were filmed CG Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina instead. 60,000 pounds of ice were needed on the set.

* The training pool used in the movie was LSU-Shreveport's natatorium.

* The 3D fluid effects (ocean surfaces, cresting waves, splashes, bow-spray, boat wakes, rain) were created by Flash Film Works in Hollywood with the expertise of Mark Stasiuk (RealFlow expert) at Fusion CI Studios in Los Angeles.

The mishap where Randall loses his crew is loosely based on an actual U.S. Coast Guard aviation mishap in Alaska. The aircraft was an HH-3F Pelican (USCG variant of the Sea King), instead of the HH-60J Jayhawk (USCG variant of the Blackhawk/Seahawk) pictured in the movie.

In an alternate ending found on the DVD, Randall survives. As he unhooks and tries to fall, Jake again grabs him and vows not to let go. Instead of unstrapping his glove, Randall lets the cable pull them up and it breaks just as they get into the helicopter. This ending was added because some of the writers were worried that the original ending was too strong for viewers. Nonetheless, it was scrapped when Disney chairman, Dick Cook applauded the original ending.

Apple Cup 2009 Score Live:- We know all the reasons why the Cougs are going to get killed on Saturday -- Washington is much improved and has Jake Locker while the Cougs are terrible and play awful on the road ... blah, blah, blah.
Looking for a reason why the Cougs might actually be able to stay well within the approximately 24-point spread tomorrow? Here's the best one I could find.
For all the problems we have defensively, I maintain that the Cougs' biggest issue is the generally non-existent nature of the offense. WSU is currently averaging 4.2 yards per play, tied for 117th nationally. To stay in a game, you simply must be able to score some points, both for the obvious reason that you have to score points to win, but also to give your defense a fighting chance to stay fresh.
Our top three offensive performances -- in terms of yards per play -- were against Cal, Stanford and Hawaii. In fact, here's a look at how we've done against the four worst defenses we've faced.

The common thread in the Stanford and Hawaii games? The offense was at relatively full strength -- it wasn't until after that Hawaii game that guys started dropping like flies. Additionally, although the SMU overall YPP was low, the offense was good enough to slice through the Mustangs for a game-tying touchdown at the end of regulation. Notre Dame is the outlier, of course -- the offensive line was completely decimated, and there was just no chance there.
But now? The offensive line is as healthy as it's been since that Hawaii game -- concussion to B.J. Guerra notwithstanding -- and the Huskies are statistically the worst defense the Cougs have faced all year. For all the money Nick Holt is being paid, he's still working with a defense full of young guys who make a ton of mistakes.
Additionally, the WSU offense is once again being led by Kevin Lopina, who isn't very good, but he hasn't generally been really bad, either. And it can't hurt that he beat Washington last year. As much as we love Jeff Tuel, of all the quarterbacks on the roster, Lopina is the least likely to be flustered by the crowd in Seattle.
The inescapable truth for Husky fans is that Washington has held just two opponents to less than 6.4 yards per play this season, and while WSU probably will be the third, there remains a substantial chance the Cougs will exceed their season average enough that they're able to move the ball with some consistency

USC UCLA Football Game 2009 Live:- USC claimed city bragging rights with a 28-7 victory Saturday night against UCLA. Just don’t expect the Trojans to boast about how they played.
Their finest moment came on a nine-play, 73-yard, clock-milking drive in the fourth quarter that running back Allen Bradford capped off with a two-yard touchdown. Their ugliest came soon after. USC, leading 21-7 with the ball and 52 seconds remaining, decided to pass following a UCLA timeout — Matt Barkley then lobbed a 48-yard touchdown to Damian Williams.
An on-field confrontation between both benches briefly ensued. It marred what was a competitive but drab crosstown showdown.
UCLA had played its way back into the game midway through the fourth quarter when fullback Chane Moline scored on a two-yard touchdown to make it 14-7. Before that, UCLA mostly beat itself, as its two-headed monster at quarterback, Kevin Prince and Kevin Craft, threw three interceptions.
USC linebacker Malcolm Smith’s returned the first one 62 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Prince, which left in the third quarter because of an injury to his right shoulder, finished 10 of 22 for 90 yards and two interceptions. His 34 rushing yards led the Bruins until Craft replaced him and gained 40 yards. Barkley went 18 of 26 for 206 yards with a touchdown and interception. Bradford had 62 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
USC (8-3, 5-3 Pac-10) can finish as high as second place in the conference. UCLA (6-6, 3-6) finishes its regular season seventh. The Bruins are bowl elgible but are not guaranteed an invite.

The last 90 seconds of Los Angeles' 79th crosstown showdown had more action than the first 58 1/2 minutes, even if it was just a few extra fireworks at the close of No. 24 USC's workmanlike 28-7 victory Saturday night.
Malcolm Smith returned one of USC's three interceptions 62 yards for an early touchdown for the Trojans (8-3, 5-3 Pac-10), who regained their defensive pride while maintaining their city dominance.
Yet those in the non-sellout Coliseum crowd who left early missed most of the good stuff in an otherwise lusterless game between two opponents in brightly colored home jerseys.
"You're either competing or you're not," USC coach Pete Carroll said. "We've been saying it for years. We've been living it for years. If you really believe in competing, if you really do, you'll understand it."
When the Bruins stopped USC's attempt to run out the clock, offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates dialed up a play-action pass with Carroll's eager approval. Max Hall Post Game Comments:- There have been two overarching themes to the comments from the game Saturday, BYU’s lack of team speed and Max Hall at QB. I want to give you loyal fans a bit of a reality check, because although the passion you have for the team excites me, sometimes our view can be a little clouded by our present heartache.
Issue #1:

SpeedTrue BYU may never have the team speed that other teams we play have, but that is not the reason why we lost to TCU. We have proven in the past that we can beat speed by playing smart defense. Oregon in the Vegas Bowl 38-8 beat down had more team speed than TCU has this year. The two TCU teams we beat in 2006 and 2007 had just as much, and probably MORE speed than this year’s TCU team. Oklahoma, yes the same Oklahoma that “used speed” to beat TCU deep last year had as much speed as TCU and we beat them in a well fought nip and tuck game.

Fact of the matter is that it is not speed and it is not the scheme, because in the past we have proven that the current scheme can beat teams of superior talent and speed. The key is that as players on Defense you need to know how to neutralize speed and take proper angles. On Offense you need to know how to neutralize the speed also.

The biggest mistake our Offensive game plan made on Saturday was that we let Hughes line up on an uncovered Tackle the ENTIRE GAME! That means that all he had to think about was a speed rush off the edge. That is the one place where speed can kill. But there is a very easy solution to the problem. You line up a Tight End to his side on every play so that he has to think about getting down blocked or double teamed. Even if the TE never touches him, it slows him down because he has to have a move ready for the TE.

I agree with Gary Patterson’s comments that the winner of the TCU v BYU game is always the more physical team, and we got pushed around on both sides of the ball all night.

Issue #2:

Max HallI know there are plenty out there who want to call for Max’s head and who think that we should let Riley Nelson take the snaps. Be realistic people. Max is a three year starter and senior, not to mention an offensive captain. We are 7 games into the season. Max is not going to be benched. Besides I need to squelch the rumor that the pick on the first drive of the 2nd half was Max’s fault. It hit Kariya in two hands, and if you get two hands on the ball it needs to be caught.

We know that Max will turn the ball over a couple times a game, but so does Chambers, and I don’t hear anyone calling for his head. The fact is that 95% of the time, with Max at the helm our Offense shreds through Defenses. He will not be replaced, nor should he be. Riley will get his day in the sun next year, and then we can compare and contrast if you like.
